Direct conversion of coal to liquids process

  1. Crushed coal and recycled oil are mixed with hydrogen from natural gas and fed into the reactor.
  2. A catalyst is added to the mixture to speed up the reaction.
  3. The mixture is subjected to heat and pressure, yielding liquids and gases.
  4. Gases are separated for further processing while liquids are drained off to be refined into fuel.
  5. Excess oil from the process is recycled for further use.
  6. A small portion of the used catalyst is removed from the reactor and more catalyst is added.

All systems are controlled and within the guidelines set by the US Environmental Protection Agency and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection.
